Kirchberg shares the ski slopes of the Kitzbuehel Ski/Snowboard region, which is legendary for the world’s most famous ski race, the Hahnenkamm Downhill Weekend, in mid January. The 166 km of prepared pistes includes the Kitzbueheler Horn, Jochberg/Pass Thurn, Hahnenkamm and Fleckalm/Pengelstein areas. The village is also proud to announce that since Winter 03/04 there is the new P2 highspeed cablecar lift that takes you up to the Pengelstein mid station and then since Winter 04/05 you can continue on to Pass Thurn with the S3 over a 400m deep valley. The S3 is reputed to be the most spectacular 3 cable Gondola Cable-Car system in the World. A network of cableways, chairlifts and buses now links these runs and the same ski pass covers access to all. There are various long established ski/snowboard schools within the village and lessons are easily arranged.

For non-downhill skiers, the surrounding wide valleys offer many cross-country routes. For the more energetic, snowshoes are readily available. Ski touring is also very popular in this region especially in the Aschau Nature Reserve at the head of the Kirchberg/Spertental valley.

For those who prefer more restful pastimes, there are numerous cleared walking paths around the village. The Schwarzsee Lake has a beautiful forest walk and when it freezes over curling and skating can be tried on the ice. Alternatively there is good winter walking available. From the Hahnenkamm or Fleckalm lift is a panoramic walking route that allows you to reach the heart of the skiing area and enjoy the alpine views of the Wilden Kaiser. Maintain your fitness with indoor tennis at the Sportscentre or swimming at the Kitzbuehel Aquarina complex, discounted (50%) entry is included with skipasses that are longer than 2 days in duration. There is also plenty of good shopping in the region and day trips to the Swarovski Crystal World, Innsbruck and Salzburg can easily be arranged.

Austria is the home of Apres-Ski and there is no better place than Kirchberg. Perhaps you may like to join in events organised by Haus Alpenblick such as the “Schnapps Safari”, Tobogganing Evening or a Romantic Sleigh Ride through the snow draped forests and white painted countryside. Alternatively, you may wish to visit the many local bars and join in the fun there.

After a long day skiing why not start on the run home at Schi Alm, then meander down to the village centre and stop at the Tiroler on your way to the cosy Boomerang Cafe-Pub or the world famous London Pub.
